Mazda CX-9 vs Toyota Highlander

Here's another side-by-side automotive contest for you: the Mazda CX-9 versus the Toyota Highlander. These two models catch the attention of any driver looking to buy or lease a spacious three-row, midsize SUV/Crossover. They're terrific for driving with full families, safely and comfortably.

Both models are outstanding in their own right, but we're a little partial to the CX-9, and would like to show why.

Safety Features

You and your family will enjoy some of the industry's safest SUVs with either of these selections. It's a tossup because both come with the latest technology such as driver-assistance. Besides the helpful gadgets, you can also depend on the hardware to last thanks to the dependable powertrains in both SUVs.

Interior Design Components

We think the CX-9 does a little better in this category. Both models offer premium interior amenities, but the Forerunner requires you to pay extra for them, whereas the CX-9 includes them in the standard package (across trims). What does that get you? Mazda inserts several outstanding items like heated seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and adjustable seats to facilitate better lumbar support. Also, unlike the Forerunner, the CX-9 has classy additions like Nappa leather, Polymetal Gray Metallic paint, and Smart City brakes. That last item is extra essential for safe driving around New York.

Performance Measures

What do these SUVs offer under the hood? Although the Forerunner offers better towing capacity (5,000 lbs. versus 3,500 for the CX-9), you might prefer the Mazda model's smoother driving. Of the two, only the CX-9 has all-wheel-drive. Plus, regarding torque and horsepower, these two are pretty much on par with another. Other than that, it boils down to preference, exploring various trim levels, and setting a budget for a new SUV.
So, with all that in mind, we'll take the CX-9 for the most comprehensive, family-friendly midsize SUV/Crossover. You're always welcome to check out either of these, and more, at our many dealerships across Staten Island.
