• Both models have enough power to get the job done. However, we see some measurable divergence between the two brands. First, let’s talk about engines and horsepower. The Honda CR-V comes with a respectable 1.5L 4-cylinder engine, whereas the Jeep Cherokee surpasses that with a 3.2L Pentastar V6 engine. The CR-V has 190 horsepower and 179-lb-ft of torque, while the Cherokee tops that significantly with 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque.
• The Cherokee also does much better with its 4X4 Powertrain compared to only two-wheel-drive on the CR-V.

• You might prefer a truck for towing, but a sizable SUV can handle minor to modest carrying efforts. However, this is another metric that clearly favors the Cherokee. Jeep’s excellent SUV beats the Honda model three-to-one with 4,500 pounds of maximum towing next to only 1,500 pounds. Those are maximum numbers, but even with standard equipment, you could handle 2,000 pounds.

As usual, the Jeep brand outperforms almost any in-class competitor. While the Honda CR-V is a decent choice, you wouldn’t want to pass up the perennially awesome Jeep Cherokee.
